Stefany Fuentes

Stefany Fuentes is a bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the State of California. She is currently accruing hours towards her Alcohol and Drug Counselor Licensure (LADC). She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology: Social Services and a double minor in Ethnic Studies and Education from the University of California Davis. She received her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Palo Alto University. Stefany is a member of the Association for Size Diversity AND Health (ASDAH) and the Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC).

Although Stefany always knew she was going to be a therapist someday, she had a prior career as an Educator. Stefany was an Education Director for the Boys and Girls Club. While developing the college-bound program, she found herself supporting many of her students beyond their educational needs by supporting their mental health needs and further connecting them to community partners. This experience led her to pursue a graduate program in Counseling Psychology. During her graduate program, Stefany worked as a Mental Health Consultant with Edgewood providing mental health related trainings to school staff and provide mental health assessment recommendations for 540 or Individual Education Plans. Her final year of graduate school, Stefany was awarded the Santa Clara County Stipend, which provided her the opportunity to work in outpatient settings, serving children, transitional aged youth, and families, primarily focusing on eating disorders and disordered eating and related symptoms (including body image, perfectionism, and OCD), substance use disorders and related struggles, depression, anxiety, and trauma and trauma-based responses. Upon graduating from her graduate program, Stefany has worked in numerous therapeutic settings including community home and corporations based programs. In her most recent positions, she has transitioned to working with adults. In her current role, Stefany is an Onsite therapist at Google and Clinical Supervisor for a Substance Use program in Santa Clara County. She also enjoys seeing clients at her weekend private practice.

By using a strength-based, trauma-informed and family-focused approach, Stefany works with clients exposed to toxic stress by coordinating care. She is also trained in the Positive Parenting Program (PPP) level 4 & 5. Through the support of assessments, the utilization of PPP books and a collaborative approach, she supports parents in strengthening their parenting skills and reduce disruptive behavior in their children. Stefany also works with clients who experience depression, anxiety, grief, PTSD, trauma, low self-esteem disordered eating, and life changes and transitions like divorce by utilizing several evidenced-based practices, including her intensive training in TEAM-CBT and DBT therapy. Stefany has also completed training in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), which may be appropriate to help you through painful memories and symptoms related to trauma. She is currently in the process of becoming certified by Emory University/Stanford consultation program.

In Stefany’s work as a professional counselor, she has served as a therapist, consultant, and trainer. Her heart has always been in the therapeutic work with her clients, and she’s delighted to expand her private practice.

When Stefany is not at work, she is traveling all over the world for personal or professional reasons. She goes on late night walks with her dog and her partner of 8 years. Stefany native of Los Angles, and any opportunity she gets she will Skype her family in Los Angeles. Her favorite things are tea, self-care, running, and volunteering. Stefany has been a long-time research assistant volunteer at Stanford and the Veterans Affair office.
